Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.
I was planning a trip outside the country so I had decided to cut all car related expenses for the rest of the year, but a great opportunity has come up. I’ve been given the chance to be part of a Chump Car team! I’m going to be at VIR for a 24 hour Chump Car race August 12 – 13 with the Lake Effect Rac1ng team driving an E30.
I’ve been there a couple of times as a spectator and participating in Mazda corrals, but I don’t have any seat time. I’m very excited to be able to participate, and a bit nervous about not having time to practice. Needles to say, I’ve already started looking at videos and taking notes.
All the hard work losing weight and getting stronger will definitively pay off. Provided we stay in for the whole race, I am to have two 2 hour stints. I haven’t discussed any details with the rest of the team, but it’ll definitively be a challenge to stay up for over 24 hours driving, doing pit duties and whatever else comes up.
I’ve never participated in an endurance race before, so I hesitated in expressing interest thinking I wasn’t ready for such an event. Then I figured what the hell, the worst that can happen is that I end up having an expensive weekend hanging out with friends and making new ones.
I made the team, things are already looking good.
